Col. Frank J. Lobash is the commander of the 192nd Fighter Wing, Virginia Air National Guard, at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. He is responsible for ensuring the readiness of more than 1,300 Airman in the execution of federal and state missions across a full spectrum of operations.
Col. Lobash earned his commission in 1995 through the Reserve Officer Training Corp program when he graduated from the University of Illinois, Urban-Champaign, with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. He attended Euro NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, and completed the F-15C replacement training course at Tyndall AFB, Florida. He was later assigned to the 390th Fighter Squadron, Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, where he participated in numerous combat deployments including Operation South Watch. In 1999, he was reassigned to the 335th Fighter Squadron, Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina, where he completed the transition course to the F-15E Strike Eagle. During this assignment, he graduated distinguished graduate from the United States Air Force Weapons Instructor Course at Nellis AFB, Nevada, and participated in combat missions during Operation Enduring Freedom over Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2003, Col. Lobash was reassigned to the 17th Weapons Squadron, Nellis AFB, Nevada, as an F-15E Weapons Instructor Pilot. During this assignment, in 2005, Col. Lobash transitioned to the Air Force Reserve and was the first traditional reservist to serve as a Weapons Instructor Pilot paving the way for Total Force Integration at Nellis AFB. In 2007, he was assigned to the 307th Fighter Squadron at Seymour Johnson AFB, initiating Total Force Integration in the F-15E replacement training unit. In 2012, Col. Lobash joined the Virginia Air National Guard’s 149th Fighter Squadron as a drill-status guardsman. He transitioned to flying the F-22 Raptor and quickly upgraded to Instructor Pilot. In 2013, Col. Lobash served as the Director of Operations for the 94th Fighter Squadron, continuing the integration of the total force at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. He was named squadron commander of the 192nd Maintenance Squadron in 2014, where he proudly commanded 175 of the finest Airmen in the Combat Air Force. Col. Lobash is a Command Pilot and has accumulated over 2,500 hours in fighter aircraft.
Col. Lobash is married to the former Cherilyn Gauch (retired Lt. Col., USAF) of Freeburg, Illinois. They reside in Lanexa, Virginia, with their two children, Jacob, 17 years old, and Emma, 13 years old. He is currently a captain with a major U.S. airline and is based out of Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Prior to his current position, Col. Lobash was the vice wing commander of the 192nd Fighter Wing, Virginia Air National Guard.
