Colonel Matthew R. Hummel

Col. Matthew R. Hummel is the Deputy Commander of the 192nd Wing, Virginia Air National Guard, at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. He is responsible for ensuring the readiness of more than 1,300 Airmen serving across eight missions: F-22 operations and maintenance, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance, cyberspace operations, RED HORSE engineering, security force defenders, chemical and biological medical response team, and weather support for Army aviation.

Col. Hummel graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 2000, commissioned as a second lieutenant, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Humanities. He is a career aircraft maintenance officer who has held maintenance positions supporting the F-15C, F-15E, F-16C and F-22A at both the wing and MAJCOM level. In 2006, he transitioned from active duty to the Virginia Air National Guard as a dual-status military technician and helped lead the transition of the then 192nd Fighter Wing to Langley Air Force Base as part of its Total Force Integration Classic Association with the 1st Fighter Wing. Prior to his current position, the colonel was the Commander, 192nd Maintenance Group, 192nd Wing, JB Langley-Eustis, Virginia.
