The mission of the 192nd Mission Support Group is to provide three combat-ready squadrons supporting federal and state missions with civil engineering, supply, security, services, contracting, personnel, communications and logistics plans support. The group’s multifaceted skills increases readiness and successfully prepares expeditionary combat members for success. They directly support the Virginia Air National Guard’s most important resources, the Airmen.
The 192nd MSG is headquartered at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. The group is comprised of three squadrons assigned to specific areas of expertise: 192nd Support Squadron, 192nd Security Forces Squadron and 203rd Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron (RED HORSE).
The 192nd SS provides support to the Virginia National Guard team through world-class customer services, resources, readiness and infrastructure to ensure total-force readiness. These support services and activities include civil engineering, communications, personnel, logistic readiness, supply and services to all personnel enabling Airmen anytime, anywhere to accomplish state and federal missions.
In 2017, 192nd SS supported the multinational F-22 Raptor’s exercises including Atlantic Trident and Northern Edge. They backed Operation Inherent Resolve by acquiring 19 A-10 aircraft spare parts enabling 3,000 flying hours and 50,000 rounds in support of operations against ISIS. They processed 107 spare repairs supporting 1,200 combat air strikes and the destruction of 43 enemy facilities.
The 192nd SFS provides a premier ready, relevant, responsive force to the VANG to support and defend the Constitution of the Common Wealth of Virginia and the United States. They train to maintain a world-wide deployable force in order to enable the Air Force's joint and coalition missions to save lives, protect people and property and relieve suffering.
In 2017, three defenders deployed to Iraq and 13 defenders deployed to Kuwait to support the 407th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron. There they conducted base security and vehicle searches. Three defenders deployed to a further location within the area of responsibility and performed base security and completed a transition of authority to the local government.
The 203rd RED HORSE, the VaANG’s largest squadron, is a geographically separated unit located on Camp Pendleton State Military Reservation in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Twenty-seven RED HORSE Airmen deployed over three million dollars of humanitarian relief supplies in response to Hurricane Maria. They built a K-Span structure in only 12 weeks while simultaneously training 120 Airmen in expeditionary facility construction. This construction project saved the commonwealth over $500,000 compared to awarding a contract to a civilian entity.
