JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. -- The 192nd Wing command team took their first tour around the base on Aug. 13, 2019, at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. Comprised of Col. Mark D. Piper, 192nd Wing commander, Command Chief Master Sgt. Chris Amburn, 192nd Wing command chief, and Senior Master Sgt. Harold Childs, 192nd Wing first sergeant, the team emphasized the importance, value, and the interconnectivity of everyone’s efforts in the Wing.
He also got to see a new common access card PIN reset station set up by the 192nd Communications Flight. Responding to feedback from 192nd Airmen, this CF initiative has enabled 192nd Airmen to rapidly reset CAC PINs without having to spend hours at the ID card office.
“Setting up a workstation at the comm flight was a game changer,” said Tech. Sgt. Demetra Patrick, 192nd CF information resources specialist. “We are now able to assist customers and have them out the door and back to work in less than 10 minutes!”
Patrick was inspired by the 192nd Maintenance Group’s similar station. She wanted to add an additional system that was more accessible to Airmen who don’t work around the flightline. She also worked to incorporate an appointment scheduling feature into the wing app so that more Airmen could find and make use of this time-saving resource.
Piper and Amburn praised the innovation and noted how often great innovation emerges from the bottom-up and not from leadership. They also visited the 192nd Security Forces Squadron, flightline operations, and the 192nd Medical Group.
Amburn stated, “Getting out of the office, visiting our Airmen, and seeing how they get after their jobs with passion, pride, and professionalism is the best part of my job.”
“Chief Amburn and I are committed to our Airmen,” Piper added. “They are the ones who make it happen. If we don’t get out and hear their stories and understand their perspective, we are just spinning our wheels. To me, ‘I am the VaANG’ means that each and every one of us has a unique story to tell and a vital role to play in our mission success. It’s a total team effort, from our newest Airmen up to the Command Chief and myself. It’s the honor of a lifetime to join the 192nd team.”
Piper took command of the wing during a change of command ceremony, Aug. 11, 2019 at Joint Base Langley-Eustis.
