Senior Airman Johnisa B. Roberts, 192nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs photojournalist, received an outstanding performance chip from Chief Master Sgt. Michael J. Bouley, 192nd FW command chief, September 13, 2015 at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. Chief Bouley chipped/coined Roberts recognizing her for professional achievement, earning a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Mathematics and furthering her education at Christopher Newport University, Newport News, Virginia, where she continues her education as part of a five-year program to obtain her Master's in the Arts of Teaching.

Roberts began her higher education in 2010 immediately after graduating from Bethel High School, Hampton, Virginia. She attended Thomas Nelson Community College, where she earned an Associate's degree in Science with a specialization in Math Education. In 2013, she transferred to CNU to pursue her degree in Mathematics and teaching.

"Johnisa is an outstanding example of the millennial Airman. She is a hard-working, dedicated member of our Wing, doing great things on and off duty. It was my honor and privilege to present her with one of my chips and as long as she doesn't challenge me with any permutations, combinations or factorials, I'll be happy," said Bouley.

Coupled with her college achievement, Roberts's photojournalist position in 192nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs keeps her engaged in military studies. She recently completed her career development course resulting in being promoted to the rank of Senior Airman and is currently working on her Airmen Leadership School Distance Learning Course so she can promote to Staff Sergeant when eligible next year.

Her academic achievement is complimented with her passion for volunteering in the community with CNU organizations and willingness to support 192nd Fighter Wing missions.

As a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed community service fraternity, Roberts has worked with several service projects including "Project Linus" where she crafted and delivered blankets for children confined to long-term stays in hospitals, "Sandwiches for the Homeless" where she helped prepare sandwiches for local food kitchens, and partnered with "ROC Solid", a non-profit organization dedicated to build hope for children fighting cancer, by providing ways for them to temporarily escape the burdens of doctor's appointments and treatments.

She served as a journalist and photographer for the "Captain's Log" the university paper, and volunteered with Elevation Church, a campus ministry. Last, her passion for education propelled her to get involved with the local schools where she worked with and tutored local middle school students in math and Spanish.

As a member of the public affairs team, Roberts supports the wing's social media initiative to include the 192nd web page, Facebook and Flickr site. She is responsible for developing and writing stories and volunteered to support the more than 130 Virginia National Guard Soldiers and Airmen joined with approximately 2,500 military and civilian emergency responders in Vigilant Guard, a multi-agency emergency preparedness exercise hosted by the Pennsylvania National Guard at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania.

"The drive and personal determinations Roberts demonstrates in her civilian life carries over to her military career here with the Virginia Air Guard.  She is reliable, motivated and sets the standard for other Airmen to follow," said Master Sgt. Carlos Claudio, 192nd FW Public Affairs Superintendent.
