Col. Dean A. Tremps, the Chief of Staff and Air Component Commander of the Virginia Air National Guard, reached a rare milestone in his 27-year military career with his promotion to brigadier general in a ceremony at the Langley Club Aug. 9. 2015, at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.

Maj. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia, presided over the ceremony.

"Today is a great day in our military," said Williams. "We are fortunate. Brig. Gen. Tremps brings an amazing set of skills to the table."

During the ceremony, the audience witnessed the unfurling of Tremps' one-star general flag. Williams reflected on the significance of the event for Tremps. "Today is his day to make the transition from the field grade to the flag grade," he said.

After Tremps' wife, Tanya, and children, Nicholas, Trevor and Peyton, pinned the new rank on his uniform, Tremps thanked many of his guests. "I am thankful for my family and this opportunity," said Tremps. "I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the team I've served with."

As the ACC, Tremps is responsible for leading the Virginia Air National Guard, assisting and empowering Virginia Airmen in executing their respective plans, programs and missions. He analyzes and evaluates training programs and operational readiness levels to determine mission capability and unit effectiveness.
