  • Airmen show support for former wingman with tribute run [Updated]

    Airmen assigned to the 192nd Wing performed a socially distanced group run to show support for a former Airman who is battling cancer on Sept. 13, 2020. Retired Staff Sgt. Nicole Gicker, formerly a 192nd Intelligence Squadron intelligence operations specialist, was an avid runner and was well known for helping her fellow Airmen improve their physical fitness.

It’s the new reality for Airmen, who like McCormack, are mission-critical during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    His grandfather instilled in him a passion for cars and racing early on at the drag strip, not far from his hometown in Brodhead, Wisconsin. But as he got older, Capt. Andrew Gibler said he didn’t invest the time he probably should have in the family’s pastime. “Especially when I got to high school, and I was too cool,” Gibler said. Now, as an adult and a maintenance officer in the Virginia Air National Guard’s 192nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Gibler spends whatever free time he has designing, developing, and producing suspension components for race cars.

Piper, 192nd Wing commander, presided over the ceremony which bade farewell to Col. Catherine M. Jumper, who takes on the position of 192nd Wing vice wing commander.

    The 192nd Operations Support Squadron welcomes a new commander during a change of command ceremony here on Jan. 11, 2020. Lt. Col. Timothy M. Strouse, an F-22 evaluator pilot and mission commander, took command from Lt. Col. Philip J. Colomy who served as commander since Sept. 16, 2019.
  • VNG Airmen return home ahead of the holidays

    Balloons and signs were in full force at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport Dec. 20, 2019, as family members, wingmen and leaders welcomed home Airmen assigned to the Virginia Air National Guard’s 192nd Wing. Just in time to spend the holidays with their families, approximately 20 Airmen returned home after they spent the last six months deployed overseas.

    The 203rd RED HORSE Squadron held a four-day field training exercise Nov. 14-17, 2019, at State Military Reservation, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Airmen across more than 20 specialties of the Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineers (RED HORSE) Squadron trained for tasks they would be responsible for during deployments.
